Master Closet Refresh with Wallpaper
Wow. The last week has been such a whirlwind of emotions and productivity. A weird combination but they kind of go hand-in-hand if you tend to compulsively do a lot of things to relieve/avoid stress like I do.
Let’s enjoy a quick before and after before I get into all the details. Doesn’t that wallpaper just make you smile?
A quick recap: After a particularly stressful week at work, I was told last Wednesday that I was furloughed until the end of July. Talk about a shock to my system!
Before all this uncertainty, I ordered some new wallpaper and some bamboo blinds for a master closet refresh. And since we can’t really return anything at the moment, I used my new *free-time* at home to quickly transform this small space.
I created a quick mood board using Word before I ordered anything. I added in images of things I already had with some screenshots of the new products I wanted to buy. I just recently started using mood boards (or design boards) and they are SO incredibly helpful to visualize the space before making any major decisions.
Over the weekend, I used some leftover Sleek White paint from Behr and gave the walls a fresh coat. This is my favorite white paint color, I cannot recommend it enough.
Luckily, the wallpaper and the blinds were shipped earlier than scheduled and miraculously arrived on my doorstep on the same day. Couldn’t have timed that up better if I tried!
The peel and stick wallpaper from Target went up pretty quickly. This design is absolutely gorgeous! It usually takes me FOREVER to pick out wallpaper because I like it to be subtler and just add some texture to the space. But this paper is just stunning and I knew I could pull off all the fun colors in such a tiny area. It’s called Floral Sprig Coral/Cream by RoomMates.
To be safe, I ordered three rolls and had just a bit left over. I started on the right side of the wall because it would be most visible. The door would cover a lot of the pattern on the left side.
The next day, I hung the bamboo blinds from Home Depot. They were surprisingly easy to hang considering this was the first time I had ever hung blinds and I was doing this project by myself. Well, my 3-year-old was trying to help but I don’t think that really counts.
I added the old shelves back in for functionality but I would like to eventually replace them with a thicker wood that I can stain to match the dresser. I styled the space with a faux plant from the new Studio McGee line at Target and rehung the door.
This project was so helpful in distracting me from the uncertainty of my job situation and the ongoing pandemic. I’m most proud of the fact that I did all of this by myself. This closet reminds me that we are all capable of doing incredible things. And who doesn’t want to smile a little every time they change clothes?
