Our Biggest Renovation Plans So Far

I’ve been holding onto this secret for a while now. Are you ready for it? We’re tackling our biggest renovation to date and it’s… (drum roll) OUR KITCHEN!!

When we moved into this home nearly seven years ago, the inspector noted the poor quality of the kitchen. It was the one item we used when negotiating the total cost. We even almost renovated it five years ago. And by “almost” I mean we had multiple quotes and were ready to put down the security deposit. But alas, the time has finally come to tackle this project, and I could not be more excited!

Here’s the current state of the kitchen. It doesn’t look horrible, but the functionality could definitely be improved.

Now, let’s jump into my vision for this space.

I want to bring some more color into this space and also brighten it up a bit. We’re going with shaker-style cabinets in Sherwin-Williams Extra White along the walls and then Night Owl on the island.

We’re moving the dishwasher to the left of the sink so we can center the range.

Then I’m envisioning a wood-covered vent hood with secret storage underneath.

We’re moving the microwave to the island and installing a pull-out trashcan which will save so much space.

I’m replacing the poorly installed floor with a lighter stained luxury vinyl plank that will be waterproof and make the whole space feel a little lighter.

For some reason, I’ve been on a pink and green kick. My living room and daughter’s room both contain pinks and greens and I found myself gravitating towards those colors when creating the kitchen mood board.

In this first mockup, I really leaned into the green with the tile. It’s very bold but I kind of love that.

In this second mockup, I chose a more neutral tile option and darker counters.

I have no idea which option I’m going to decide on or if I will go in a completely different direction by the time the cabinets are ready. But for now, I’m just bursting with excitement for our new space.
