Why I Love White Painted Walls (Plus My Favorite White Paint Color)
How do you feel about white painted walls? Do you love it? Hate it?
I can’t get enough of it! And it’s so ironic because when my husband and I lived in our apartment, I couldn’t WAIT to get into a house so I could paint the walls any color I wanted.
But alas, I have found a paint color that looks good in literally every room in our house. Seriously. I’ve used it in the kitchen/dining room, both bathrooms, two bedrooms, and as an accent wall in the family room.
And, just this morning, I used this color in our master closet.
My favorite white paint color
My favorite white paint color is Sleek White by Behr.
Two separate times now I have purchased a 5-gallon tub of Sleek White during Home Depot’s big paint sale. 5-gallons might seem like a lot, but this color is so versatile, you can use it ANYWHERE! I go through those 5-gallons fast!
Speaking of Home Depot, do not trust the color online. Seriously! The color that they show online looks way more yellow than the color that goes on the wall. Pick up a paint chip and see it in your space before you decide to buy any.
No taping required
I will go on record and admit that I am not the most careful painter. In fact, I’ll just straight up say that I’m a messy painter.
But the beautiful thing about this paint color is, you hardly notice it when I get a little bit on the ceiling or baseboards which saves both time and money because I’m not using a ton of painters tape.
White pairs great with other colors
Sleek White by Behr has warm undertones. I love how it makes any space feel warm and cozy.
This color looks great with literally any other color (except another white with cool undertones). It’s like a big blank canvas just waiting for you to add pops of color in your artwork, pillows, furniture, or rugs.
Sleek White pairs great with white IKEA furniture too! We painted our living room built-in shelves and later added in some IKEA cabinets. I was nervous that they two whites would clash but they look great together.
Makes the room feel bigger and brighter
Every time I paint a room white, I am amazed at how much larger and brighter the space feels.
Our master bedroom has always been a challenging space with its weird layout and no windows. Yeah, that’s right, there are zero windows in this room. Which is great for sleeping in late but also makes it feel like we’re living in a dark cave.
I covered the builder-grade beige with my favorite white paint and the room feels exponentially larger. It also feels less claustrophobic. Since the walls just fade into the ceiling color now, there’s this illusion of more height.
Final thoughts
These are some of the many reasons I love using white paint in my house. I have a funny feeling that every room will eventually be painted white at some point.
If you’re looking to make fresh update, I hope this color gives you as much joy as it does to me.
