Dollhouse Makeover

This fun project kept us occupied during this rainy weekend!

Let’s take a little walk down memory lane… We asked our family for this dollhouse as a Christmas gift last year. I picked this one in particular because I liked the size (it’s big enough for Barbies) and it was reasonably priced (under $90).

Here’s what we started with:

Nothing wrong with it, it just wasn’t exactly my style. And I’m not going to lie, it kind of bothered me having all the different colors clash with the other colors in her bedroom.

So, last Summer, we took a trip to Joann Fabrics and picked out some scrapbook paper during one of their big sales. They had the biggest selection of paper and the sale prices couldn’t be beat.

I had some leftover modge podge from a Christmas craft… so we had just what we needed to make some faux wallpaper!

The hardest part of this project was finding paper with a pattern that easily repeated. The walls were bigger than the standard 12 x 12 inch scrapbook size so everything needed to be pieced together at the top and sides.

I also let our 3-year-old pick out which prints and colors she liked the best. (You know if it was up to me, everything would have been black and white with shiplap and teeny tiny brick patterns.)

Here’s the final reveal and we are both so happy with how it turned out:

My favorite rooms are the kitchen and bedroom. In the kitchen, I love this sweet little peach paper with the chair rail detail. And of course I love the bird print in the bedroom! I originally wanted to put that on the pitched ceiling, but decided against it at the last second.

There are a few more details I might add a little later like molding around the windows and possibly a little brick fireplace in the living room.

Seeing her face light up when she saw the final reveal was priceless. She even asked if I would keep playing with her instead of watching a new movie tonight. I call that a win-win!
